Ulta Beauty has apologized for sending an email to consumers with a "very offensive choice of words" in the subject line.
"Come hang with Kate Spade," the chain wrote in an email sent Sunday, advertising the brand's perfume line. Some subscribers shared the email on social media, mocking Ulta for the apparent link between the subject line and the designer's suicide.
In 2018, Spade was discovered hanged in her Manhattan residence. Her husband previously stated that the 55-year-old designer, who created an accessible handbag line and other products, suffered from anxiety and melancholy.
"Ulta, you might want to talk to your marketing department," one Twitter user suggested. Another person commented that "not the best word choice" was used.
The cosmetics business expressed apologies over the email.
"Ulta Beauty recently issued an email promoting Kate Spade New York Fragrance, in which an offensive choice of words was accidentally utilized. We apologize profusely for this "In a statement, the business said. "This was an error that does not reflect our beliefs, and we are making efforts to prevent it from happening again."
Customers who received the mailing were emailed an apology from Ulta (ULTA).
The firm stated, "It was clearly not reflective of our profound regard for Kate Spade, her family, and the Kate Spade New York brand and brand staff." "We sincerely regret to the Spade family, our brand partners, and our guests for any misunderstanding that this error may have caused. We are determined to improve."
